The creative director transition era

A designer's first collection is always a pivotal moment. With so many major houses in transition simultaneously, SS26 revealed a clear strategy: hybrid continuity. Designers blended their brand's DNA and their predecessor's legacy with their own creative vision. This approach is particularly crucial today. Brands must remain instantly recognizable, especially for social media, making these debut collections pressure-filled moments where designers must make a statement in a single show, withstand inevitable comparisons and balance brand heritage with a perspective that is relevant

Is seasonality still a thing?

When examining our data and runway analysis, two fabric shifts stand out. The fading of seasonality and the return of texture and volume.

The very concept of seasonal fabrication is dissolving. Leather, raw denim, velvet, and corduroy, traditionally autumnal fabrics, have increased significantly in comparison to SS25. Designers introduced seasonal-appropriate iterations of the fabrics: denim dresses, leather dresses from Schiaparelli and Loewe, and the lightweight tweed Matthieu Blazy introduced at Chanel.

Extravagant fabrics, such as feathers or fringes, abandoned during the quiet luxury era, are having their moment again. Draping was used in 2% of all 10,000 looks analyzed this season. Tulle grew 30% from SS25, and small sequins increased 20%. These texture-rich materials signal fashion's renewed embrace of expressive detail and emotional depth.

SS26 introduced a wave of creative director debuts that redefined major maisons. Pierpaolo Piccioli’s Balenciaga mixed heritage with optimism, emphasizing shape and texture; Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez’s Loewe highlighted color and cohesion. Across houses, designers balanced past and future through vibrant palettes, sculptural silhouettes, and human-centered creativity.
